OSCAR Nottingham was set up by a group of people emerging from the 'grass roots' who were concerned at the lack of specialist care and information for those with Sickle Cell Anaemia (not excluding Thalassaemia), The pioneers involved families, carers and others who come into contact with people with these disorders, eg: Social Workers,Teachers and Employers.
The Organisation for Sickle Cell Anaemia Research, more commonly known as OSCAR, is now a registered charity providing services in Nottingham since 1983.
The pages on the web-site have been developed by Charles Washington in the service of people who have S/C blood disorders and also any category of persons who wish to know more about S/C Blood Disorders and its social and welfare implications.
For on-going research and medical information go for the Links that are medically oriented. The Link "Resources for the Sickle Patient" will be a start in that direction. For a helicopter view, surf all the links!
